[Cairo, Egypt] Sharwa, the social group buying platform raises $2,000,000 pre-seed funding round to bring affordable retail to all

Social commerce startup Sharwa the closing of its pre-seed funding round for $2,000,000. The round was co-led by NUWA Capital and Hambro Perks Oryx Fund and joined by notable angels from Kitopi and Careem Alumni. Sharwa aims to do just that, starting with Egypt.

Sharwa's Story

Founded earlier this year by Alaa Shalaby, Hassan El shourbagi and Mohamed Hanafy. Sharwa aims to address the gap between the large number of social media users and the low levels of ecommerce penetration.

Before Launching Sharwa, Shalaby worked on Strategy & Market expansion at Kitopi and Careem, Shourbagi headed operations at Halan, Careem & Capitar while Hanafy led Product teams at both Careem and Delivery Hero's Hungerstation

What is Sharwa?

Sharwa's platform allows for customers to get the best prices for their daily purchases on household essentials like groceries, appliances and homeware. Where customers can club their baskets into a group order and place them to Sharwa through WhatsApp or directly on its App unlocking wholesale prices from manufacturers for next day delivery.

In remote areas Sharwa utilizes community leaders to collect orders in their communities. These community leaders are previous super users of its service.

Customers can buy products at two price points - alone or in a group. Group prices reach up to a 40% discount when compared to retail prices.and the discounts are unlocked when a customer invites someone to buy with them or join existing groups created by other customers.

Since inception Sharwa has grown significantly, attracting tens of thousands of shoppers to its platform.The service is live in Cairo and plans to serve the rest of Egypt and process hundreds of thousands of orders in the next 12 months. The pre-seed investment will be spent on developing the technology platform and expanding the team.
